JPK 11.80 Sunrise 1st in Class Sydney Hobart 2022,1st Overall 2021 Rolex Fastet Race and 2nd Overall 2021 Rolex Middle Sea Race - Amazing performance
Making a boat win in all race formats is never easy... But that is the ambition of the yard and of Jacques Valer for the JPK 1180.
Designing a 100% inshore or ORC, IRC boat is quite simple: thin sections, high ballast ratio, reduced wetted area, generous sail area and fairly high displacement.
Designing a 100% offshore boat is also quite simple: increased hull power allowing less ballast weight and light overall displacement. What follows is the work of the architect, who, through his talent, optimizes the design.
In the case of the 1180, the subject becomes more complicated. To win a Middle Sea Race or a Fastnet, you need an offshore hull; but to win a week of Cowes or a Spi Ouest France, you need an inshore boat!
Jacques Valer is undoubtedly the best architect to date to combine the two, and he has already proven it with his previous boats (JPK 960, JPK 1010, JPK 1080).
With the 1180, emphasis has been placed on crewed sailing (8/9) which allows you to play with the boat's trim and get the most out of it.
A boat designed to win it all, both inshore and offshore.
On this boat, the forward sections are fuller than on the JPK 1080 but less than on the JPK 1030.
The stretched water lines, when the boat heels, are banana enough at the center line to clear the ends, drag little water and allow you to lift your nose well downwind.
The speed record of the boat is 28 knots, with Sunrise!
Not too light to avoid the caudine forks of the gauge and to remain efficient upwind, the boat is however very lively and planing.
The results give reason to Jacques Valer, our architect, because after great overall victories at the Fasnet, the Middle Sea Race, the Week of Cowes or even the Spi Ouest France, the proof is no longer to be made that the hull of the 1180 is more than aesthetic: it is above all terribly effective.
Jacques Valer is truly a magician!
